4. The place for gamers´ reunions: "Arcades"

The arcade were arcade machines that were capable of reproducing basic graphics and had buttons, levers, and other accessories to complement the gaming experience. They had an impact on two cultures: the Japanese and the American from the concept of the arcade room.

Arcade machines gave us great games starting in the 70´s and it was the first step for many players in the world of video games, spending hours playing games in arcades.

The ideal was that many games were played in a short time, and some games even had the option to adjust the speed or health of the enemies, in order to make the game more complicated and difficult to master.

The developers had to strike the right balance between a game being hard enough that it wouldn't be beaten in a single playthrough, but not too hard to frustrate players and make them stop playing.

In this way, some games were extremely easy in their early stages, but their difficulty increased considerably until the final levels. This way players would not get bored even after playing hundreds of times, as they would have to keep playing games to fully master the game.

6. The first portable console: "Nintendo Game boy"

The Game Boy was one of the first portable consoles and the one that popularized this concept.

It was designed by Gunpei Yokoi, Satoru Okada, and their Nintendo development team. Once they presented the concept of the console to Hiroshi Yamuchi, president of Nintendo at the time, they began to work on it. Although many do not know it, this console was not the first with Nintendo's portable format, in fact, Gunpei Yonkoi, Satoru Okada and their development team gave birth to Game & Watch years before, a console that unfortunately had a short history.

The Game Boy was developed and manufactured by Nintendo. It had features of the NES and Game & Watch hardware, a green screen, five buttons, a speaker, and a jack output. It used AA batteries and its games were 2MB cartridges. It did not offer great technology compared to what we are used to today, but at that time it was a small great revolution and was able to conquer an entire generation thanks to its innovative portable format that, despite being the second portable game console in Nintendo offered very good autonomy and playability.

The Game Boy was released in mid-1989 in Japan and North America and in 1990 in Europe. In its first year it did not manage to reach great sales numbers, but it was shortly after that the famous Tetris entered the scene. This game was a revolution and helped the sales of the Game Boy to multiply.
